Form factors required for electronic paper media

Form factors required for an Electronic Paper, which has advantages of both electronic displays and papers, were studied. Using currently available display media including paper and a variety of electronic paper mockups, two kinds of tasks of reading/understanding/judging were evaluated for 76 subjects. Through the task observation, factor analysis, performance measurements, following valuable findings were obtained. (1)Capability of viewing and comparing multiple pages is important, and is independent of image qualities. (2)A mockup, which has appropriate rigidness, impressions of lightweight and thin, showed high subjective score for overall usability items. Especially in reading, its score tended to be higher than that of paper.
