Lithium ferrite was investigated with a view to its application as a new CO_2 absorbent capable of absorbing CO_2 at around 500 deg C and emitting CO_2 at temperatures of less than 750 deg C. From the TG analysis, equilibrium temperature of lithium ferrite, at which CO_2 absorption apparently stops and emission starts, is found to be around 530 deg C. This temperature is almost the same as that obtained from thermodynamic calculation and about 200 deg C lower than those of Li_2ZrO_3 and Li_4SiO_4. The absorption rate increased as the absorption temperature increased up to 500 deg C. On the other hand, CO_2 emission was completed in about 10 min even in pure CO_2 at temperatures of more than 600 deg C.
