摘要

Organic compounds, heavy metals and drugs poured into natural environments engender harmful effects on aquatic organisms due to their biotransformation. The degree of pollution in natural habitats has given a new urgency in developing of novel technologies to early assess the environmental health status. Environmental metabolomics is an emerging approach for examining metabolic profiles in biological systems exposed to environmental stress. Recently, it is applied to value the anthropic impact on aquatic habitats through bioindicators and its results integrate information obtained by conventional cellular and molecular methods.
