摘要

This paper proposes a hybrid type capacity control mechanism that combines both VP-level and VC-level capacity control in a variable capacity ATM network. In the proposed scheme, environment of network traffic load is classified into 3 states, i.e., non congested state, lightly congested state and heavily congested state, then, VP-level control is used in non congested state as well as in heavily congested state, and VC-level control is used in lightly congested state. The authors evaluated the performance of the proposed scheme by traffic simulation. Simulation results revealed that the proposed method using fair shore index of average queue length shows improved performance.
