The application of intercellular lipids in skin care products

Phospholipids, steroids and ceramides are known for its water retain-ing and cell cohesion function in the stratum corneum of the human skin. The important role of these lipids is to repair and maintain the skin barrier function.However, it has been difficult to formulate these lipids in a stable form in skin-care products, due to its crystallization.The following report reviews the stabi-lization and effectiveness of phospholipids, steroids and ceramides, when formulated in liposomes and oil-in-water emulsions sized under submicron.
