In the present review, recent development on ionic liquids has been summarized especially on the viewpoint of electrolyte materials for ionics. Organic ions are quite promising to design novel ionic liquids and to control their characteristics because of structural variety. Development of novel ionic liquids such as zwitterionic salts which provide excellent ion conductive matrix but never cause the component ions to migrate even under potential gradient, new alkali metal ionic liquids, and polymerized ionic liquids is proposed. Future aspects on this quite attractive material are also mentioned.
