摘要

IN THE AIR-TO-AIR role, both beyond visual range (BVR) and short-range missiles provide fighters with their lethal edge. The US military puts great emphasis on live firing exercises to prepare both ground technicians and aircrews for handling and firing these sophisticated weapons. Between September 1-3, the US Navy held such an exercise for two squadrons from its reserve force Tactical Support Wing. EA-18G Growler operator VAQ-209 'Star Warriors' and F/A-18A+ Hornet user VFA-204 'River Rattlers' deployed to NAS Oceana, Virginia, for the exercise off the Virginia Capes in order to put their capabilities and systems to the test.
