Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho is the residence for three squadrons of Strike Eagles. It is a diverse and extremely busy wing, and one that looks set to grow as a Strike Eagle hub for the future. DEAD-FLAT PLAINS, rolling foothills and craggy snow-capped peaks afford the US state of Idaho a dramatically varied landscape. There is a real feeling of outdoor pursuits here; skiing is big business in the winter and there is a palpable feeling of open space. The state capitol Boise is a city with bags of character and the glorious February winter sun belies the outside temperature that is hovering around freezing. Driving south from Boise, this feels like Wild West territory, more often associated with states further south. The tumbleweed gets snagged on rusting farm machinery these days rather than rolling into saloons. Famous lawman Wyatt Earp spent time in Idaho searching for gold. He was a sheriff in the town of Eagle and found himself in at least one major gunfight.
