Antimicromial susceptibilities of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and M. hyosynoviae strains isolated in Thailand during 2006 to 2011

Objectives: The present study were carried out to make clear the susceptibilities of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (Mhyop) and M. hyosynoviae (Mhyos) strains isolated from pigs in Thailand during 2006 to 2011 and to examine for 23S rRNA transitions as an evidence of aquired resistance to macrolides.Materilas and Methods: A total of159 Thai isolates of M.hyop derived from pneumonic lungs of pigs from 46 farms and 41Mhyos strains isolated from lungs or tonsils of apparently healthy pigs and from synovial fluids of pigs with clinically swollen joints.The type strain J of Mhyop and S16 of Mhyos were also included. Twelve and ten antimicrobials were used to determine minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for Mhyop and Mhyos respectively. The determination of MICs for Mhyop was carried out by brothdilution methods using flat-bottomed microplates described by Yamamoto et al. (Jpn. J. Vet. Sci" 48,1-5) and for Mhyos by agar dilution method by Hannan (Vet. Res., 31,373-395). Sequencing of domain V of 23S rRNA in Mhyop and domain II and V in Mhyos was carried out by ABI 3130 Genetic Analyzer (Applied Biosystems) after PCR amplification of those regions.
