Analysis of the Kukun Hot Springs flora (Chukchi peninsula).

The flora of the Kukun Hot Springs area, Chukchi peninsula, Russia was divided into three parts, the species found only outside thermal localities (TL) (179 species), those found only within TL (29 species), and those found both within TL and outside it (64 species). Grasses were the most frequent species present. The flora as studied by A. P. Khokhrjakov in 1974 (31 species) and that found in 1995 (29 species) was compared. An increase in the number of the indigenous species (63% compared with 28%) and perennial species (63% compared with 39%) was established. 21 species had disappeared, 19 new ones had appeared, and 10 had persisted. 10 specific thermophilic species were revealed, among which 4 were new for the Kukun springs. The flora had stabilized since a period of anthropogenic disturbance.
