A Comparative Study of Heart Rate Variability Bio-Feedback Based on Unemployed and Normal Subject Groups

Resonance frequency training (RFT) feedback can promote a homeostatic state in the body, and generate high-amplitude oscillation in autonomic functions. Nevertheless, due to lack of sufficient evidences, RFT feedback has not been applied to both clinical and non-clinical situations broadly. In the present study, we investigated the effects of RFT on heart rhythm pattern, heart rate variability (HRV) with or without the interventions of negative emotion in 67 participants with 33 unemployed and 34 normal control group. Compared with spontaneous respiration, significant increases in temporal and spectral measures of HRV and morphological and quantitative analysis of heart rhythm pattern also suggest that resonant frequency respiration is capable of profoundly affecting the heart rhythm toward a positive emotion related oscillation mode. The achieved results indicated by decreasing sympathetic activities, increasing parasympathetic activities, and increasing Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) synchronization might provide new insights into the heart-brain interactions and ANS dynamics, supporting the application of RFT feedback in the self-regulation of emotions and stress in daily life.
