Application of Ceramic Anchors in the Roof of a Cement Kiln Preheater

With the increased amount of industrial waste processed in cemerrt kilns, there has been an increase in the amount of volatile components that are circulating and condensing in the kilns, causing a change in the pattern and mechanism of damage of the refractories. In the lower cyclone roof section of the preheater, studied to this investigation. Y-shaped steel anchors were corroded after very short service life (for example, only one-year service) and broke/failed, resulting in the collapse of sections of the refractory lining. To overcome this problem, a lining configuration was proposed using ceramic anchors, which are little affected by the volatiles present in the kiln, and a gunnable fireclay plastic refractory for the working face layer. The performance of this lining configuration will be monitored in an actual field installation to confirm that it is more durable than the previous lining configuration.
