When a general-type SN plate (Al_2O_3-C) is used in the casting of high-oxygen steel, it is known that there will be major damage due to oxidation and erosion. An Al_2O_3C SN plate with a lot of added Al metal is superior to resistance to oxidation and corrosion", but it has the serious problem that during casting the material around the opening cause sinter, which develops remarkably high modulus of elasticity (MOE), which produces the damage like edge defect. The authors examined the adequacy of carbon content and material microstructure, and also studied control of the increase in MOE, due to the sintering action in the Al_2O_3-C systems.
