ORGANIC GROWING MEDIUM INHIBITS THE CRAZY ROOTS SYNDROME: A CASE STUDY WITH SOLANUM MELONGENA'

For the past 50 years, the greenhouse growing systems have evolved into the modern soilless approach. In the current horticultural practice, the growing medium is a fundamental factor to obtain the best growth of ornamental and vegetable plants. In general, the strategy in greenhouse horticulture has been to keep the growing system as "clean" as possible; for this purpose, pathogen-free propagation material, expensive disinfection and other sanitation techniques and further addition of uncontaminated growing media have been applied (Gisi et al., 2010).
