Speaking to C&CL in mid-December, Ian Dudden, Director, Commodity Products at Euronext.liffe, highlighted the fact the LIFFE's activities in the commodities market are very much 'customer-driven,' and that LIFFE's product/commodity advisory group -which meets 3-4 times a year - plays a key role in advising the Exchange about trends and issues in the market. These include ongoing developments in the market such as the growing volume of cocoa that is shipped in bulk, and other trends that have, and may, require revision of the Robusta contract LIFFE operates. The advisory group acts as a sounding board, notes Dudden, noting that, for example, since the concept of bulk cocoa has been enthusiastically embraced by the cocoa trades LIFFE's cocoa contractneeded to be modified to reflect that fact, and that cocoa is no longer a case of straightforward 10 tonne deliveries.
