Inadvertent subclavian arteriotomy closure using the Mynx vascular closure device

Subclavian artery puncture is an uncommon but important complication of subclavian venous catheter insertion. Because manual compression of the subclavian artery is limited by anatomic location beneath the clavicle, vascular closure devices may have a role in sealing subclavian arterial access sites. We describe the successful closure of a 7-F subclavian arteriotomy using a vascular closure device with a polyethylene glycol sealant. Institutional review board approval is not required for single retrospective case studies at our hospital. A 60-year-old woman with hypertension presented to our institution after sudden onset of severe headache. Computed tomog-, raphy (CT) scan of the head showed diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage, and a cerebral arteriogram revealed a ruptured left anterior communicating artery aneurysm. Based on aneurysm size and location, surgical clipping of the aneurysm was selected.
