Growth and biomass production of Michelia champaca L. and Toona ciliata M. Roem seedings as affected by Leucaena leucocephala and Cajanus cajan species mixture and N,P,K application was studied during 1999-2001 in Mizoram, N.E. India. The comparison of growth performance in terms of plant height, collar thickness and total biomass of M. champaca and T. ciliata shows a much slower growth in the former than the latter. The difference was more prononced in the plant height, leaf number and total biomass. All the root characteristics parameters except the ratio of shoot length: root length, AGB: BGB ratio and plant sturdiness followed the same sequence. In case of plant sturdiness, the pattern was in the order of T5>T3>T2>T4>T1 in M. champaca and in theorder of T3>T2>T5>T1>T4 in T. ciliata.
