摘要

A useful multipurpose tree Acacia auriculiformis (Australian Babul) has potential to provide in tangible fuel, fodder, posts, poles, shade and shelter, besides other intangible services. It was introduced from Australia and occupied the arid and semiarid regions of the country. It is a straight, quick growing tree upto 16 meter with regular branches. Bark white smooth, leaf pinnate and flowers are white to rich yellow in colours. It coppices well. With this view, a study was initiated in 15 years oldAustralian Babul plantation at Forestry Research Farmi Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur (M.P.) during the year 2007. The results revealed that in Australian Babul corresponding to the tree height interval 15.1 to 20 m with respect to.dbh interval 21 to 23 cm, the plant growth characters viz., dbh, height and volume had higher value of 22.2 cm, 15.2 m, 0.56 m~3, respectively. The volume of Australian Babul was predicted on the basis of dbh and height including as independent variable D~2H. The range of volume table was obtained at the height of7m and 0.12 m dbh as 0.0679 m~3 while, the maximum volume was obtained corresponding to the height 34 m and dbh 6.8 m. This revealed that as the height and dbh increases, the volume increases linearly. The correlation coefficient between volume and independent variable D~2H.was estimated to be 0.600 m~3 which was significant. At the same time the regression of the volume as independent variable (D~2H) was estimated to be V — 0.0152 + 0.8246 D~2H, which, can be used for forecasting of the volume at different stages of height and dbh.
