Efficacy of neem seed extracts, Neemrich I 80-EC and Neemrich II 20-EC against louse and flea infestations in goats - A preliminary study

Efficacy of neem (Azadirachta indica) seed extracts, Neemrich I 80-EC and Neemrich II 20-EC was studied against natural infestations of louse, Linognathus sp. and flea, Ctenocephalides felis orientis in goats. Forty infested kids were dipped in 0.5 per cent Neemrich I aqueous solution and the maximum control percentage (MCP) recorded on day 7 for lice and fleas was 31.5 and 84.0, respectively . At a concentration of 1.0 per cent on 23 goats, it showed a MCP of 9.0 for lice on day 14, while MCP for fleas was 85.7 on day 7. The other compound, Neemrich II at a concentration of 1.0 per cent when used on 64 infested kids, showed a MCP of 61.6 for lice and 98.7 for fleas on day 7 and day 14, respectively. Neemrich I and II were found to be more effectiveagainst fleas than lice.
