Gastro-intestinal nematode infections in bovines from the Marathwada Region

Faecal samples of 450 cattle, 420 buffaloes, 279 sheep and 472 goats were collected and examined for gastrointestinal nematode infections. On the basis of faecal culture, it was found that cattle and buffaloes harboured 7 and 5 strongyle species, respectively; whereas sheep and goats harboured 6 species each. Trichostrongylus, Haemonchus and Bunostomum spp. were the most commonly found nematodes in all the host species. Estimation of eggs per gram of faeces in the host species showed average valuesof 6023+-280, 5525+-308, 3347+-364 and 3163+-35 in the case of sheep, goats, buffalo and cattle, respectively.
