Detection of microfilaria of Dirofilaria immitis in canine and its treatment: a case report

Dirofilaria immitis infection in a dog has been diagnosed on the basis of clinical symptoms and demonstration of characteristic microfilaria in the stained blood smear. Ivermectin @ 0.2 mg kg-1 body weight administered subcutaneously twice at 14 days interval followed by a subcutaneous injection of levamisole @ 5 mg kg-1 body weight 7 days later have been found effective for the treatment of D. immitis infection in the affected dog.
