Sound Maintenance and Operating Practices Through Objective Inspection are the Key to Good Health of Coke Oven Battery

Tata Steel has adopted an aim of 40 years stable operational life from its stamp charge batteries. The key measures to achieve this are: Annual diagnostic survey of battery refractory condition, quarterly diagnostic survey of the battery anchorage system, routine monitoring of the thermal map of the battery, adoption of innovative repair practices, and restructuring of operational practices. This paper focuses on the approach to diagnostic survey, from the data recorded during operation of the coke oven battery. The traditional repair decisions can been be made on the basis of sound information.
