Fundamental estimates have appeared abroad in recent decades for the operational efficiency of a number of technologies, production facilities, and industrial sectors from the standpoint of the most advanced exergetic methodology, based on use of all three principles of thermodynamics and the operationally functional energy component. Such analyses and estimates, which provide a deep understanding of the thermodynamic bases of energy conservation, are made in order to find practical ways to reduce energy expenditures in producing gross product [1-3]. The carbonization industry in CIS countries as yet has no experience in compiling and analyzing sector exergy balances. Unfortunately, the scattered publications dealing with exergetic assessment of coke production processes have not been followed up [4, 5]. The authors have undertaken in the present paper to make an exergetic analysis of carbonization in order not just to attract the attention of specialists to this problem but also to indicate possible approaches to energy conservation and improvement of coke production.
