Introduction Located at Fort Detrick in Maryland the National Center for Medical Intelligence is a department of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and is responsible for producing integrated all source medical intelligence for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other government and international organizations to protect US interests worldwide.Fort Detrick is a US Army Garrison in Frederick Maryland and has gone through much iteration in its short history since its original role as an airfield in 1931. In 1943 the US Biological Laboratories were established here and achieved pioneering results in decontamination, gaseous sterilization and agent purification quickly becoming a world leader in biomedical research. The offensive biomedical program was disestablished in 1969 and many of the laboratories were decommissioned. Since then Fort Detrick has matured as a centre for biomedical research and development as well as hosting an eclectic collection of US Army units and tenant organizations including NCMl.
