Aravinda - A High Yielding Desi Cotton Varivety for the Rainfed Red Soil Traits of Andhra Pradesh

Selection NDL2 708 was identified as a promising G.arboreum cotton variety suitable for early kharif sowings (May-June) in red and light soils under rain fed conditions in Kumool and Prakasam Dists. It is a cross between Desi A2462 x. A5262. This newvariety recorded overall 28% increased yield as against 'Srisailam' and 'Pandari Mungari' (checks). The crop is early with a duration of 160 days as against 180 days of Srisailam and Pandari -Mungari. This was released for general cultivation in 1996 with a popular name as Aravinda. It is still popular.
