A new and green procedure for the synthesis of 14-aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes through one-pot condensation of naphthalen-2-ol with benzaidehydes in the presence of 1,4-dichloro-1,4-diazqniabicycIo[2,2,2]octane bis chloride as catalyst in water as a solvent is described.
