Chelating ligands derived from thiophene-2-aldehyde and o-phenylenediamine (talophen) or tn-phenylenediamine (talmphen) have been synthesized. The complexes of Cu-II and Ni-II have been isolated. [Cu(talophen)(2)]Cl-2, [Cu(talmphen)(2)]Cl-2, [Ni(talophen)(2)]Cl-2, [Ni(talmphen)(2)]Cl-2 are diamagnetic and square planar, Other Cu-II and Ni-II complexes show mu(eff) indicative of their distorted octahedral or octahedral nature.
