摘要

This paper presents a method for analysing the failure modes and effects thereof, based on a digraph and matrix approach. The constituent components of the system are analysed for their criticalities based on risk priority number (RPN). Subsequently, these critical components or sub-systems are structured into diagraph and necessary matrix is developed with the purpose of finding out the 'index of failure modes' which can form the ultimate basis of ranking the sub-systems. An index I{sub}(fme), a measure of failure mode and effects of the system is obtained using variable permanent failure mode and effects matrix (VPFMEM) which indicates the performance ofthe system and this, in turn, is used to analyse the system.
