A NEW BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE CONSTITUENT FROM CICHORIUM INTYBUS LINN

摘要

Cichorium intybus Linn belongs to family compositae. It is commonly known as "Kasni" in Hindi. It is found in wild of Punjab and Andhra Pradesh, cultivated in Bihar, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Maharastra, Gujrat and Tamilnadu. Its root is used as carminative and bitter tonic. It is also used in the treatment of jaundice, liver enlargement, abdominal inflammations, rheumatic affections. Its leaves are bruished as applied like poultice. Its seeds are used as tonic to the brain. It is also used as appetizer, good in headache and asthma. Earlier workers have reported various chemical constituents from this plant. In this paper we report the isolation and structure elucidation of a new flavone glycoside alongwith a known compound from ethanolic extract of the leaves of this plant.
