摘要

Azo compounds find renewed application in new areas specially analytical Chemistry viz. coloured metal chelate formation for estimation of metal ions. Azo compounds are likely to act as chromogenic or fluoregenic reagent, if proper structural characteristics are present. The syntheses of two novel azo compounds have been achieved viz. 2-Nitro 2'4'-Dihydroxy Azo-benzene and 2-carboxy 2'4'-Diamino Azo-benzene. These compounds have been found to act as novel chromogenic / fluoregenic reagent in the detection of major classes of pesticides (organo-chloro, organo-phosphorous and carbonates) by chromatography in matrices related to toxicological / environmental cases with a commendable semitivily (2 p.p.m.). The syntheses and analytical findings have been highlighted in the present paper.
