Managing Phosphorus for Higher Efficiency and Environmental Quality

I am most thankful to the Indian Society of Soil Science (ISSS) for inviting and giving me the opportunity to deliver the prestigious 28th Professor J.N. Mukherjee - ISSS Foundation Lecture at the 75th Annual Convention of the Society during 14-17 November in Bhopal. Professor Mukherjee was an outstanding researcher, teacher and equally importantly, the founder Secretary of the ISSS. I take this opportunity to pay my humble homage to Professor Mukherjee. For this lecture, I have chosen the topic "Managing phosphorus for higher efficiency and environmental quality" in view of the importance of phosphorus in Indian agriculture. The current status of P research with special focus on management strategies for achieving higher efficiency in P utilization and environmental consequences of excess P application is presented in this lecture.
