Sir, - It has been suggested that bacterial or viral meningitis may be enhanced by helminthic larvae that migrate to the central nervous system. This hypothesis was supported by the observation of viral infection in the central nervous system coincident with infection by Ascaris suum in pigs and with Setaria digitata in horses.In addition, it was reported that Toxocara canis or Trichinella spiralis infection in mice enhanced the infection with the Japanese B encephalitis virus and induced more severe lesions.
