In this study, the rheological behavior of a semi-solid, AZ91D magnesium alloy was measured by a high-temperature Couette (coaxial-cylinder) rheometer. In the isothermal holding experiments, the steady-state apparent viscosity of an AZ91D alloy was measured as a function of shear rate at a constant solid fraction (i.e. constant temperature). The viscosity of the slurry decreased with an increasing shear rate and increasing isothermal holding temperature (decreasing solid fraction). Based on the experimental data, the constitutive flow behavior of AZ91D Mg alloys in the semi-solid state was described and the empirical power-law model was found.
