In this paper, vibration cutting (VC) has been applied to drilling and milling processes by the vibrating worktables we developed. The effect of VC on burr formation after drilling and milling is investigated with the help of Taguchi method and analysis of variance (ANOVA). We found that vibrating frequency in milling has a strongest effect of 38.5% in contribution ratio on burr formation. It has been shown that machining parameters set at their optimum levels can ensure significant improvement in the burr formation with the assistance of VC. In the drilling-force experiments, it has been found that cutting force decreases with the increase of vibrating amplitude. The introduction of VC can reduce the drilling thrust force effectively, up to 21% based on the experimental results.
