Special attention for elderly women: atypical left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome induced by dobutamine stress test: a case report.

To the Editor: Acute and rapidly reversible left ventricular (LV) apical ballooning syndrome or tako-tsubo card-iomyopathy provoked by psychological stress is a recently presented clinical entity in the literature that mimics myo-cardial infarction and acute coronary syndrome. It usually affects people aged 60 and older and seems to disproportionately affect women; pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the transient LV apical ballooning are unclear. Emotional or physical stress are the most common triggers, although there are several documented cases of this syndrome being induced by dobutamine, which is used routinely for cardiac stress tests.
