摘要

Reinforcing the importance of publishing negative results, this issue brings also the article by Wilens and colleagues (p. 73), an industry-sponsored study of a novel compound targeting a nicotinic neural receptor subunit in ADHD. Positive findings in adults were encouraging, but this report of two independent, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies in children did not find any differences between the compound and placebo on the selected primary and secondary outcome measurements. Atomox-etine, in contrast, led to significant improvement in ADHD symptoms, indicating that the study was well designed and had enough power to demonstrate actual differences between the treatment arms.
