摘要

On January 19, the North Cape, a barge that had run aground off Moonstone Beach, Rhode Island, began leaking heating oil. Eleven days and more than 800,000 gallons of oil later, rehabilitation efforts continued for many of the birds affected by the spill. Veterinarians responded to the birds' needs, often selflessly closing their clinics and rescheduling appointments to offer their services in the disaster. Coordinating the bird rehabilitation effort was Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research, a New Jersey-based organization devoted to wild avian rehabilitation and oil spill response.
