Making the Grade: Levels of Leadership, Part 2

As we have discussed previously in this column, leadership becomes even, more important in rimes of change. Change in the health care arena (and a lot of it, very quickly) was an idea that both major party candidates shared in the 2008 US presidential elections. With the election over, that change is now imminent and will test our leadership in ways that few generations of radiologists could have imagined. Part of taking the mystery out of leadership is developing objective criteria for evaluating your leader or leaders. At the outset, let us separate leadership characteristics from simple numerical goals. Both are objectives, but there is a substantial difference in their use and their impact on decisions and outcomes.
