摘要

Economy and efficiency of structures depend on accurate assessment of their structural behaviour. During the idealisation of a structure, assumptions regarding its behaviour are made and analysis is carried out. So the results of analysis are significantly affected by these assumptions. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop a generalised approach for direct stiffness method eliminating axial deformations for analysis of rigid jointed plane structure. Elimination of axial deformation from analysis using stiffness method means reduction in number of unknowns for analysis which leads to reduction in computer memory and effort of solving large sized matrix. The proposed approach is found suitable for generalised computer program for any complex plane frame.
