Attempts were made to identify efficient bacterial strains from tea phylloplane and their bio control activity and plant growth promoting properties were studied. The effect of cell free culture filtrates of the selected bacterial isolates on the germination of Exobasidium vexans spores was carried out. The antagonistic interactions among the selected strains were worked out in vitro. Enumeration of the selected biocontrol agents was carried out to determine their survivability on tea phylloplane. Plant growth promotion by the selected bacterial strains was studied in nursery plants using the biometric parameters. Selected bacterial strains were coded and tested for their biocontrol potential under field conditions. Talc based bioformulations of selected strains were prepared; Two bioformulations: Formulation A containing a single bacterium - WPB 104 and Formulation B, a consortium of three strains - WPB 104, WPB 109 and NLB 12 and standard Hexaconazole schedule were tested against blister blight disease, in multilocational field trials viz. Anamallais, Vandiperiyar, Munnar and Gudalur.
