摘要

The recent publication, Gender differences in traumatic experiences and mental health in active duty soldiers redeployed from Iraq and Afghanistan, Maguen S, Luxton, DD, Skopp NA, Madden E, focuses on several important findings. It highlights that PTSD symptoms may be increased among female veterans who have been injured in combat. The authors also discuss that significant mental health sequelae result from combat injuries in women. It is paramount that all healthcare providers for veterans be cognizant that injuries while in combat may lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder particularly among female soldiers. Previous experience of child abuse or partner abuse, as suggested in this publication, may moderate the negative effects of combat injuries in women (Maguen et al., 2012). Physicians need to be cognizant, as well, that MST experienced by female veterans may lead to future difficulties with depression (Kimerling et al., 2007, 2010).
