Laudatio for the 2011 Fahraeus Awardee: Prof. Dr. Hans Walter Reinhart.

Following the rules of our society it is my duty as Fahraeus Awardee of 2009 [2, 5], but it is much more, my privilege and pleasure to give the Laudatio to the 15th Fahraeus medallist, to a scientist and clinician with outstanding merits and to a good friend: to Professor Walter Reinhart.The Fahraeus medal was suggested in 1979 by Shu Chien, Holger Schmid-Schonbein, John Dormandy, P. Drouin and Jean-Francois Stoltz to honour scientific distinction and to be awarded every two years to an outstanding scientist in the field of hemorheology and microcirculation. The awardee is selected by a secret two-step ballot by the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the European Society for Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation.
