Leadership 101 or 201, You Decide

Recently I read an interesting article, "Be a More Gracious Leader: 12 Ways," by Kevin Daum on lnc.com. I related the article to my military leadership background and found numerous similarities. Our great nation has had great military leaders, such as George Washington, John J. Pershing, Eisenhower, Nimitz, Patton, Marshall, and Schwarzkopf. Some of them went on to politics and joined other great civilian leaders such as John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin Roosevelt. All of the above could be considered strategic leaders. Throughout my life, I have worked for outstanding leaders at the operational level, and they had characteristics very similar to those Mr. Daum describes.
