Variability of Hevea isolates of Corynespora cassiicola from Sri Lanka.

Corynespora cassiicola cause a devastating disease on Hevea brasiliensis. The diversity in symptoms illustrated in this study is a unique feature of this pathogen and it is a serious limitation in diagnosing the disease under field conditions. Colony and reproductive morphology, conidia and toxin production, pathogenicity and sensitivity to fungicides varied greatly among the isolates. Pathogen sporulation and toxin production correlated positively with pathogenicity. Based on the results three pathogenic groups were identified.
