Troubleshooting pharmacological methods ? Meeting an unmet need

In the normal course of research new models and methods arise, but in parallel, pharmacologists and toxicologists work to improve the methods we already use. Some of the innovations are small yet far reaching in terms of their value. In this issue of the Journal of Pharmacological and Toxicological Methods we publish a second collection of articles that troubleshoot existing methods and techniques for evaluating drug actions.One of the most vexing aspects of research is dealing with problems that arise in the execution of a technique, some anticipated others not. Indeed it would be absurd if all methods arrive completely formed and perfect. Solutions need to be publicised. Our journal is perhaps unique in its commitment to the publication of small improvements to models and methods that troubleshoot their shortcomings.
