Mantrip collision briefly shuts E. Kentucky mine

A section of an eastern Kentucky coal mine where two miners were seriously injured in a Wednesday morning haulage accident was allowed by state mine-safety officials to reopen Thursday, according to Dick Brown, spokesman for the Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing. Brown said investigators are trying to determine why a mantrip carrying several miners collided with a supply car inside Bledsoe Coal's Abner Branch Rider mine in Leslie County. “It looks like the mantrip they were riding in somehow collided with a supply car on the same rail,” he said.
