Kentucky shuts four American Resources mines

The Kentucky Division of Mine Safety has pulled permits of four American Resources Corp.-affiliated mines in Pike and Perry counties due to workers’ compensation concerns, according to a state official. Two of those mines are tied to the Perry County Coal operations that American Resources acquired in September at the court-supervised auction last year from bankrupt Cambrian Holding, which filed for Chapter 11 reorganization on June 16. Two of the operations were part of a February 2016 acquisition of the McCoy Elkhorn Coal properties from thenbankrupt James River Coal, which subsequently exited the coal business upon reorganization.
