Ohio mining company meets opposition to expansion plans

Oxford Mining Co.'s plans to expand its operations in southern Ohio have hit a bump in the road in the form of opposition from environmentalists.The company is seeking a water quality certification permit from Ohio EPA under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act that will allow the company to mine two seams of coal near the town of Barnesville. The permit would allow the mining operation to discharge limited amounts of sediment and coal waste to surface water.
