SO OBAMA won. Can you hear that sound? It is the silence of longwalls stilled forever by a regulation regime that is surely aimed at making coal mining history. During Obama's recent administration the coal industry faced the twin challenges of a massive natural gas glut and an Environmental Protection Authority set on regulating coal out of existence. The gas glut led a lot of electricity generators to switch to gas-fired plants, escaping tough EPA regulations that were making it hard for coal-fired stations.
