Dingell out, Waxman in as House energy chair; 'openness' to coal may wane

House Democrats on Thursday voted 137 to 122 to oust Michigan Democrat John Dingell as chairman of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee and replace him with coal adversary California Democrat Henry Waxman, who will become the House's primary voice on climate change and energy legislation in the new Congress that convenes in January. The National Mining Association was quick to respond. "The Caucus has spoken and we congratulate Waxman," spokesman Luke Popovich told Platts. "We hope he builds on the work that Chairman Dingell has already started so that we can get a timely and responsible solution to climate change."
